childPvt. Josiah Schonley    175th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, Company 'H'.

SOURCE: Tombstone, Niantic Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Related Link:    http://home.epix.net/~denlinge/175th.htm

NOTE: Josiah Schonley is probably the same individual as Pvt.Jesse Shanely below.

There is record of Josiah Schanely corresponding in 1863 with Jacob B. Mensch, a Mennoite minister from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania during the Civil War.  At the time, Josiah was apparently a member of the Spenolas Brigade Fosters Division Camp New Bern, North Carolina.  It seems likely this was the same individual noted above but not absolutely proven.  See: http://grebel.uwaterloo.ca/mao/Microfilm%20Collection/Hist.Mss.11.9.htm

childPvt. Jacob Shaneley    53rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, Company 'A'.

Enlisted September 18, 1861  Not accounted for.

SOURCE: History of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. (Theodore Bean)

Note: It is believed that Pvt. Jacob Shaneley, above, was not mustered out with his company on September 18, 1862 because he had enlisted with the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry (Company 'L') the day before on September 17, 1863.  Thus, he is identical with Jacob Schanely, 17th PA Cavalry, above.
